Kieran, August 2008
I was born in
Derry, Northern Ireland, in Altnagelvin Hospital (yeah, I hadn't even heard of it either
until a few years ago!) on 6/7/89. Shortly after, we all moved to Rabat, Morocco where we lived
for three (sweaty) years. Following Rabat, we moved to Arlington, Virginia to check out the US side of things.
One of the memories that springs to mind was a gigantic Easter egg hunt which we were invited to at the Bill and Hillary Clinton
White House. That was back in the days when America wasn't so paranoid of children wielding spherical
objects and running around crazily, screaming for chocolate....?!? When we moved back to Ireland in, the
summer of 1995, primary education was required so I reluctantly (read: dragged, kicking and screaming)
attended Dalkey School Project in Dublin, Ireland's first multi-denominational primary school.
But of course, at the time I couldn't have cared less what multi-denominational meant. All I wanted to do
was play Pok?mon. From there I went on to St. Andrew's College, (South) Dublin where I graduated
in June 2008, having destroyed the Irish Leaving Certificate, or more specifically Classical Studies in which
I got an A1, a grade only 18 people in the entire country achieved! To celebrate the end of six years of tyranny
under the iron fist of A.G my friends and I embarked on what we christened "The Loliday". An epic two week
inter-planing (Because we were too lazy to go by train) tour of Paris, Stockholm, Amsterdam and London. In
August, Andrea and I travelled to Mexico for some sun, salsa and...burritos? We stayed with my dad in Quer?taro
(look it up on google. It is a real place) and spent a few days at Club Med Ixtapa. A word of warning: an all inclusive
bar does NOT mean you must sample every single cocktail and spirit that they have on offer, especially not on the
same night! Unfortunately no one was around to tell me that and, needless to say, I can never drink Tequila and
lemon again.
In September 2008 I started first year at University College Dublin, studying for a BComm degree
with the intention of entering the film industry as a producer in the near future (if you are reading this and are
involved in the film industry in any way, I'd love to get in touch). For the past three summers I have been doing
extra work in the hit Showtime series 'The Tudors' Starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers. It's a good
laugh and probably one of the easiest but decently paid jobs I'll have for the next forty odd years. I have also worked
as a volunteer in the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival which is actually bigger than Cannes! (But not really)
I've made/edited a few short films just to experience some amateur filmmaking and have a laugh with some of my other
friends who are interested in film as well. And I've just won an ERASMUS place at the University of Auckland starting Feb. 2010; visitors welcome.
